Chairman John Gong Helps Mend US and China Relations

December 10th, 2018 New

The trade war between the United States and China resulted in a deficit for both Chinese and US economies. There are no winners in this trade war. Many businesses have declined in growth, while others businesses cease to exist. Mending relations for both US and China required someone who could create a positive image between US and China.

Mr. John Gong would be that creator.

In 2012, Mr. Ed Nixon, US President Nixon’s youngest brother, asked his old friend, Mr. Gong, Chairman of Athena Technologies Inc., to take on the role of Chief Representative. As Chief Representative, Mr. Gong arranged a visit to China to mark the 40th anniversary of President Nixon’s very first visit to China, back in 1972. By doing this, it would bridge positive reinforcement between the US and China. Included in the trip were Nixon’s family members, as well as former White House staff, where they visited Beijing, Shanghai, HangZhou and ShenZhen cities. The party received an overwhelming welcome from secretaries and mayors from these cities.

On February 21st, 2012, Mr. Gong held a banquet for Nixon’s members and Min Li, Chairman Mao’s oldest daughter, in DiaoYuTai Hotel; the same hotel where Prime Minister Zhou hosted President Nixon back in February 21st, 1972. Both President Nixon’s family and Chairman Mao’s family celebrated the great relationship and the friendship between China and US, 40 years later. The trip was an overall success.

Due to the trade war and the success of the travel venture, Mr. Gong, with the given support of President Nixon’s family, Richard Nixon Foundation and Chinese Consulate General, he decided to continue to promote peace and harmony by hosting a banquet in Los Angeles for local politicians and executives in remembrance of President Nixon’s visit to China back in 1972.

The event was held at the Hilton in San Gabriel. Many Nixon family members, Chinese Consul General, Deputy Consul General, former White House Staff, Nixon Foundation CEO, Committee 100 members, local city mayors, and business executives were in attendance.

Newspapers and television stations such as: China Daily and Xinhua News Agency reported this event a success.

This is the first step to repairing relations. Mr. Gong will continue to promote positive relationships between China and US.
